The Douglas VC-118 was a modification of the DC-6 post war airliner. It was adapted specifically for use as a presidential transport. This plane was used specifically by Presidents Kennedy and Johnson. It was not referred to as Air force One at this time, but as “3420” the last four digits of its Air force Serial number.
