The mythical dragon was long a revered creature in Japanese culture. This B-24J's “Dragon and His Tail” design was intended to upset the Japanese by implying it was capable of unacceptable acts. The plane was used in low level bombing attacks on Japanese airfields, where it would be quite visible to the enemy.
